This fun-filled open day is a celebration of everything that it means to be part of the REME Family. The event takes place throughout the entire museum grounds, including the galleries, Education Suite, outdoor spaces and gardens and of course Crown’s Café! Expect even bigger and better things this year, as we combine a Summer Fete with Armed Forces Day, for an exciting day out for all the family with loads to get involved in: Displays, exhibitions and equipment from local REME units including 8 Training Battalion and the Corps Engagement Team Apache helicopter with opportunity to get inside - with thanks to the School of Army Aeronautical Engineering (SAAE) Lyneham! Summer Fete style games for all the family, including inflatable axe-throwing, basketball throw, hook-a-duck, target practice and more Bouncy castle Local business and charity stalls Historic recovery vehicles from the Reserve Collection (last year's line-up included a Scammell Pioneer, Foden, Diamond T, Bedford Light and Warrior!) Prize raffle (proceeds to the REME Charity) - tickets available to buy on the door, prizes up for grabs will be announced within a week of the event! We aim to update visitors of any major changes in advance of the event but this may not always be possible. Refreshments Crown's Café will be open to visitors with a ticket to the event, offering a limited lunchtime menu, plus tea, coffee and cake of course! Additional catering vans will be on-site offering food to purchase throughout the weekend. Getting Here Find us just outside of MOD Lyneham, Wiltshire. Parking Free parking will be available in our large car park, we ask that you please reserve a parking space if you need one in advance! Blue Badge spaces are available on a first-come-first-served basis and you must have reserved a parking space online. Unfortunately we cannot reserve specific spaces in advance, so please plan your arrival accordingly. If you can, please consider travelling by alternative means. Dog Policy Dogs are welcome on the museum grounds but are not allowed inside the building, with the exception of assistance dogs. We can provide water in bowls outside the cafe and by the main entrance, please just ask if these are empty! Armed Forces Day celebrates everyone who makes up the Armed Forces community, including currently serving personnel, veterans, cadets and their families. Events take place across the country to give the public an opportunity to show their support and appreciation for the Armed Forces community. When is Armed Forces Day? Armed Forces Day takes place on the last Saturday each June. This year it is on Saturday 27 June. Is Armed Forces Day only for currently serving regular personnel? No, Armed Forces Day marks the end of a whole week of celebrations for the entire Armed Forces community, past and present. Armed Forces Week includes Reserves Day (24 June), which provides the country with an opportunity to recognise our Reserve Forces. When was the first Armed Forces Day? Armed Forces Day was initially called Veterans' Day, announced by the government as a way to ensure the contribution of our Armed Forces will never be forgotten. The event was first held on Saturday 27 June 2006, the anniversary of the first investiture of the Victoria Cross in 1857. The event first became known as Armed Forces Day in 2009.
