Crowns Café

Refuel and recharge

Crowns Café is the REME Museum’s not-for-profit café, open to museum visitors and passers-by alike. Whether you’re planning a full day at the museum, taking a break from work, meeting friends locally or stopping in for a relaxed lunch, you’ll find a warm welcome waiting for you.

In a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, you can enjoy freshly cooked breakfasts, homemade cakes, barista-style coffees and a lunch menu featuring freshly made sandwiches, paninis and daily specials. For our youngest visitors, there’s a selection of tasty hot and cold children’s options too.

All profits from Crowns Café go directly to the REME Charity, which supports the REME Museum’s work to preserve and promote REME history.

Opening hours

We are open every day except Monday.

Monday: Closed

Tuesday - Saturday: 09.30 - 15.00

Sunday: 10.00 - 15.00

Breakfast is served until 11.30 (we are currently trialling all-day breakfast on Sunday).

Hot food is served until 14.30.

During some museum events, the café may be open to ticketholders only. We aim to share updates via our social media channels, please check ahead to avoid disappointment.

Menu

Our menu takes advantage of fresh, locally sourced ingredients, including seasonal produce from our very own Dig for Victory Garden. We also offer daily and weekly specials, so there’s always something new to try.

A brown cafe counter with cakes and scones on top. Coffee bar and drinks behind. Restaurant seating in background.

Our counter was one of the bars when the museum building was an RAF Officers' Mess.

Dietary requirements

We aim to cater for a wide range of dietary preferences and requirements. Our friendly team are always happy to help answer any questions related to allergens and specific dietary needs. You are welcome to contact us ahead of your visit – we’ll do our best to ensure you can enjoy a suitable and delicious meal.

Location

Crowns Café is located inside the REME Museum building. Take a look at our Getting Here page for directions to the museum.

You will find the café through the main museum entrance, via the left-hand side corridor. Outdoor seating is available, some of which is under cover.

You do not need a museum ticket to visit the café, although a visit to the galleries is highly recommended.

A family of two parents and three children sit at a picnic bench underneath a red umbrella. They are outside next to grass and hedges, and a brick cafe building is to the right.

In good weather, you can enjoy your food and drink outside, making use of our outdoor seating area overlooked by the Lynx helicopter and adjacent to our outdoor playpark.

Family friendly facilities

  • Children’s menu - choose any 3 items for just £6
  • Highchairs - available on a first-come, first-served basis, get in touch to reserve one in advance
  • Baby-changing facilities - available in two locations: the Ladies’ toilets closest to the café or the unisex accessible toilet near the Remembrance Gallery exit

For more details, visit our Family Fun and Accessibility pages.

Book a table

There is no need to book for individuals, couples or small groups as we have plenty of space. We recommend larger groups and clubs book ahead to help us to ensure we can serve you quickly. Call us on 01249 894868 or email [email protected] to book ahead.

Event catering

Thinking of hosting a meeting or event at the museum? Crowns Café can provide catering for events in the Conference Room or Education Suite when arranged in advance. Please Contact Us to discuss Venue Hire and catering options.
