These workshops are tailored for Key Stages 1 – 2 and can be adapted for additional needs, different group sizes and alternative curriculums. LEGO® Engineering Curriculum links: Science, Mathematics/Numeracy, Design and Technology (DT) Challenge your class to design, build and test motorised LEGO® vehicles with our technical, high-quality LEGO® engineering kits. Extend their learning with specialist hydraulic and solar power add-ons to power their creations. Get to grips with STEM skills, using our LEGO® construction equipment. Wartime Workshop Curriculum links: History, English, Literacy, Speaking and Listening Explore the stories of REME soldiers on the battlefield and of life on the home front. Starting in our dedicated World War Two display and using real historical artefacts, this workshop will give your students an immersive introduction to life at that time. The workshop can be tailored to focus on either or both of the following themes: Handling History What was life like in World War Two? What did soldiers wear? What did people eat? Your class will have the opportunity to handle equipment and artefacts from wartime and discover what life would have been like! We've got plenty of real World War Two uniforms for trying on. A Soldier’s Life Chart the journey of a REME soldier from D-Day to VE Day through the eyes of Craftsman Wallace. Wallace’s real, handwritten letters are part of the Museum’s collection of World War Two artefacts. Your class will use copies to unlock his story. Peter Wallace wrote lots of letters to his wife Olive during the Second World War. Your class can uncover these original letters during their visit. From the Museum's collection, A:2014.7861. Citizenship Curriculum links: PSHCE, Citizenship The highest medal of honour awarded to a REME soldier, the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross, inspires discussion. Explore the issues of being a modern global citizen in these group workshops. Please bear in mind that these workshops are designed for KS2 and above. These paintings offer a small insight into the bravery of some REME soldiers, including Corporal Adam Miller CGC, depicted in the far left. Booking Information How to Book Pre-booking for school workshops is essential. Sessions can be booked Tuesday to Friday. To discuss workshops, request more information or make a booking please contact our Education Officer at [email protected]. Any of the above sessions can be booked separately or in combination with another. Or, if you are looking for a session with a slightly different focus, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate your needs. Workshops are designed for an average class size of 34 pupils. Larger groups and multiple classes can be accommodated. Please contact us to discuss this option. Included in Booking Included with booking is a self-led visit to our modern, interactive museum, full of tanks, uniforms and stories. You can also make use of our extensive grounds and challenging assault course when it’s sunny outside. Pre-visits for teaching staff are free and encouraged. Please call ahead to let us know you are visiting. Alternatively, if you do not have time to visit before booking, or if you would like to know what to expect before you visit, you may wish to take a look at our Virtual Tour. Sample risk assessments are available on request. Pricing Workshops cost just £6 per pupil. Book two workshops for your group on the same day and pay just £8 per pupil. We charge a minimum of £100 per group. We can also run our popular outdoor Assault Course for an extra £1 per pupil. This is dependent on weather and group size. Please let us know in advance if you are interested in this option. Escorting adults go free and will be kept well supplied in tea or coffee. Can’t come to us? Any of our Primary workshops can also be delivered as outreach sessions within your classroom. Further Information Free re-entry for pupils Every pupil that visits as part of an organised learning workshop is entitled to unlimited free-entry for 12 months, when accompanied by a paying adult. Vouchers are given out at the end of sessions. Your pupils can enjoy another visit for free with these vouchers. Education Suite Unless arranged otherwise, all workshop sessions will take place in our purpose-built Education Suite inside the Museum building. Our classroom is complete with smartboard, projector, and chairs and tables suitable for all ages, which can be set up in any configuration to suit your group.
