On 8 May 2026, on the 81st anniversary of VE Day, motorcyclists with Ride To The Wall (RTTW) visited the REME Museum.

RTTW is a bikers’ charitable organisation that rides to remember members of the Armed Forces that gave their lives in the service of their country and to raise funds for the National Memorial Arboretum (NMA). It started as an opportunity for an organised group to ride together to pay their respects at The Wall of the Armed Forces Memorial at the NMA, Staffordshire. Since 2008, the organisation has raised a total of £1.83 million for the NMA.

Throughout the year, some gather for additional rides of remembrance. This year, a ride was organised for over 50 bikers, coming from various starting points as far as Carlisle, to visit the home of REME in Lyneham. The group had the opportunity to be shown around some of the training areas at MOD Lyneham, including the School of Army Aeronautical Engineering (SAAE), as well as to look around the REME Museum.

After enjoying a self-led visit to the museum galleries, the group of bikers rode through MOD Lyneham to The Roger Jones MBE Vehicle Hangar for a tour of our Reserve Vehicle Collection.

The collection includes repair and recovery vehicles used, modified and maintained by REME personnel all over the world. The hangar is named after our late colleague and friend, Staff Sergeant Kelvin ‘Roger’ Jones MBE, who looked after our vehicle collection until his passing in 2020. We offer guided tours of the reserve collection to the public throughout the year, check our Talks and Tours page for dates.

In attendance was patron of the charity and former Master General REME, Lieutenant General (Retd) Paul William Jaques CB CBE, who presented a plaque on behalf of the group to the Museum’s Director, Major (Retd) Rick Henderson. We plan to put the one-of-a-kind plaque up in one of our corridors in the near future.
